REGISTRATION

Registration for New Students
During the orientation/registration period, new students can register for first-semester classes. With the official permission of the Admission Office; new students who have arrived late must register by the fifth class day. Students must have paid fees, taken placement tests and completed registration before 5.00 PM on that fifth class day. Students who miss this deadline will be subject to an additional fee that covers both late placement testing and late registration.

Registration for Undergraduate Degree Seeking Students
SJIU considers a “degree-seeking” student any student who intends to complete a bachelor degree at SJIU. Students may register for a subsequent semester starting from the sixth week of the semester already under way. Students will register for their first semester during orientation and should register for the subsequent semester according to the official Registration Periods indicated on the Academic Calendar (see Academic Calendar for deadlines).
If students fail to register during the Registration Period, they may still register during the Late Registration Period, which, however, incurs an additional fee. After this period, registration is not possible for the following semester.
Students who have outstanding fees will not be able to register for courses.

Registration for Master Degree Seeking Students
After the first semester, students must register for subsequent semesters according to the registration deadlines indicated on the academic calendar.

Registration for Non-Degree Students
These students should follow the same procedures as degree-seeking students.

Registration for Undergraduate Degree Transfer Students
During the orientation/registration period, transfer students can register for first-semester classes and must present all the documents required for the registration and the evaluation of transfer credits. With the official permission of the Admission Office, transfer students who have arrived late may register during the first five class days. Students must have paid fees, taken placement tests and completed registration before 5.00 PM on that date, or they will be subject to late registration fees.

Registration for Master Degree Transfer Students
Transfer Students may register within the first three days of orientation. No more than 12 credits are transferable. Moreover, students will only receive credits for courses in which at least a 3.0 has been awarded. In any case, only the Admissions Office or the Dean of Academic Affairs has the authority to determine whether or not credits are transferable. With the permission of the Academic Affairs Office, graduate students may register within the fifth day of classes. In this case, students must have completed their payments and have filled out the registration forms by 5:00 p.m. on the fifth day of lessons. Students who register after this deadline must pay an additional fee which will cover the late registration costs.

Registration for Undergraduate Study Abroad Students
Study abroad students will indicate their course preferences when they apply to SJIU. Course registration will then be confirmed after acceptance to the program. Students are responsible for following their home institution’s policies and procedures for studying abroad, which may require course pre-approval or a leave of absence request.

Registration for Returning Students

SJIU considers returning students those who resume their studies after an approved leave of absence. During the orientation/registration period, these students will be able to register for the intended semester of return in the presence of a faculty advisor. With the official permission of the Admission and Academic Affairs Offices, returning students who have arrived late may register during the first five class days. Students must have paid fees, taken placement tests and completed registration before 5.00 PM on that date, or they will be subject to late registration fees.

Registration for Readmitted Students
SJIU considers readmitted students those who have left the University without being granted a leave of absence, or who have not strictly observed the period of absence granted them by the Dean of Academic Affairs, but who now have been allowed to return. Students seeking readmission should contact the Admissions Office and reapply for admission. After officially being readmitted, students can contact the Academic Advising Office for assistance with registration.
