Orientation

At the beginning of every semester, SJIU will hold its orientation program. Students new to SJIU will learn about the academic policies and the standard procedures of the university including registration and academic programs. Students will also receive information about technological and library services as well as an SJIU student Handbook. The orientation program lasts two days, and helps familiarize students with the SJIU campus and housing. A guided tour of the historic center of Torino also takes place.

Each student will receive an Orientation Packet which provides information on both SJIU campus and academics, as well as practical information for living in Torino/Vinovo. During the two days of orientation, SJIU will acquaint students with SJIU student services (including health and safety, and emergency information), campus facilities, academics, local transportation, and legal documentation.

During the orientation period, placement tests in English, math and foreign language will be available. New degreeseeking students at SJIU will also register for first-semester courses during a meeting with a faculty advisor.

SJIU’s staff will guide students through the process of obtaining their Italian "Permit to Stay" (Permesso di Soggiorno). Students will be accompanied to pick up the necessary forms and will be shown where to return the documents once they have been completed.

Students will also receive information about life in Torino. This will give them a chance to understand how to move around the city and become familiar with places that may be important to daily student life.
