SJIU offers an MBA education emphasizing a synergistic interdisciplinary approach to the mastery of sustainable business concepts and practices. Its educational philosophy integrates the dominant paradigms in management, sociology, ecology and cultural studies to train the business leaders of tomorrow in tomorrow's necessary business skills. All the business courses at SJIU incorporate this philosophy, resulting in a truly unique program.
It is clear that the business leaders of tomorrow cannot simply follow in the footsteps of their predecessors. Either business will proactively pursue a new, sustainable direction of its own or it will be forced to react to social and governmental pressures for change. For leadership to have the necessary skills to be proactive, systematic training in the concepts and practices of sustainability will increasingly become necessary. Those entering the management ranks without sustainability training will lose ground to those who possess a thorough understanding of sustainability issues
Leaders trained in the application of interdisciplinary knowledge and methodologies are better equipped to manage for success than managers trained in traditional functional specialties. Sustainability and profit can go hand in hand; indeed, in the future they will both be required capabilities of all successful organizations. Students in the SJIU MBA program will be exposed to business cases to sharpen their decision making skills simulating the conditions they will experience as managers. They will have the opportunity to meet and hear business executives who are currently pursuing integrated and profitable solutions to environment problems. They will participate in real-world exercises involving management of sustainability issues.
In addition to the course materials and the SJIU core philosophy, the international and cultural diversity of the student body and of the faculty and staff will provide a rich learning experience. All students will be offered career placement guidance and assistance. Last, but certainly not least, SJIU's location in Turin offers a unique opportunity to interact with the rich Italian culture and to learn a new language, and is only an hour or two away from Switzerland, the South of France, and the Italian Riviera, offering many opportunities for exposure to additional European cultural experiences.
