The B.S. in Environmental Architecture was chosen because the bioclimatic approach to architectural projects has become a primary duty with regard to sustainable development. In Europe, in fact, construction on the environment is responsible for 40% of global primary energy consumption and generates 40% of the gasses responsible for the greenhouse effect.

This program is firmly grounded both in the history and theory of Environmental Architecture as well as practical aspects such as project planning, modeling, electronic publishing and drafting. Courses will encourage students to become independently creative and able to develop their own projects as well as express personal architectural opinions. Students will develop these independent skills within the supportive atmosphere of the department and under the direct attention of professors. Students will learn from practical experience what it means to plan a building project.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Architecture is designed to instill concepts and skills upon which professional architecture studies at the graduate level are based. Upon successful completion of this degree, students will have all prerequisites necessary for admission to a two-year accredited professional Master of Architecture (M.Arch degree) program.

The Bachelor of Science in Architecture is a pre-professional degree and is not accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). There are two types of degrees that are accredited by the NAAB: the bachelor of architecture, which typically requires five years of study; and the master of architecture, which requires a minimum of three years of study following an unrelated bachelor's degree or two years following a related pre-professional bachelor's degree. These professional degrees are structured to educate those who aspire to work as licensed architects.

The pre-professional B.S. degree on its own is useful for students seeking foundation in the field of architecture, as preparation for and advanced professional degree program or employment n architecture-related areas.
