Language Requirement
No prior study of Italian is necessary. Semester/year students are required to take at least one Italian language course. An exam will be held upon arrival to confirm placement in the correct level.
Course Materials
All students are required to buy the necessary textbooks and reading materials once they arrive at SJIU as course reading lists may change.
Credits and Transcripts
Transcripts are issued by St. John International University/Scuola Superiore per Mediatori Linguistici which is accredited by the Ministero dell’Università, della Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica (Italian Ministry of Education).
Please Note: It is up to the student’s home institution to determine if/how credits for courses taken while abroad will transfer. SJIU recommends that students seek course pre-approval from an academic advisor at their home institution prior to departure.
Internships Experiences
SJIU offers its students the chance to participate in internships experiences through agreements made with select organizations in Torino. Types of placement include: non-profit organizations, community out-reach groups, regional promotion of Italian culture and traditions (including the ‘made in Italy' movement and local food and wine production). This type of opportunity places students in direct contact with everyday life, helps them to learn the language and increases their sense of civic duty and responsibility. Students who choose to participate in an internship experience are require to maintain full-time enrollment status at SJIU.
