CERTIFICATE IN VENETIAN STUDIES
SJIU’s Venetian Studies Certificate offers students the possibility to explore Venetian history and culture, while at the same time consolidating and/or acquiring a knowledge of the Italian language.
Venetian Studies are strongly related to the SJIU mission of “sustainability” as Venice is a city that is facing vast environmental issues. The city of Venice is in danger of being submersed by water and the region of Veneto has growing problems in terms of the energy supply, pollution, and in general, the challenges of the global market. All of these reasons make Venetian Studies the perfect subject for investigating sustainability in the fields of environment, economics, energy and also in art conversation and restoration.
Venice is one of the most famous and visited cities in the world and has a very long and varied history. The same holds true for the area surrounding the city of Venice, the region of Veneto, one of the twenty regions in Italy. The region of Veneto has approximately 4.9 million inhabitants and is 18,391 km squared in size.
Today, the region of Veneto is one of the most important economies in Europe making it one of the richest regions in the world, terms of GDP per capita. Three-thousand years of life, culture and civilization form an impressive line of continuity, truly unique in Europe.
